BOGUS STAMPS

Purpose

Validate previously funded notes that were no longer current
Reason
Emergency measure to relieve a critical shortage of notes in the TM department

Facts
There are two (2) different styles the official TM re-issue stamp:  Circular and Straight
There are two (2) different colors of the TM stamps:  Red-Orange and Black
There are two (2) different Month of Issue for the TM stamps:  February and March - 1864

TM Round Red February    

This is an example of a Circular Red February 1864 TM re-issue stamp.  This stamp has been reported on fourteen (14) different Confederate Type Notes.  

 



TM Straight Red March 1864

This is an example of a Straight Red March 1864 TM re-issue stamp.  This stamp has been reported on three (3) different Confederate Type Notes.

This is an example of the Circular Black March 1864 TM re-issue stamp.  This stamp has been reported found on three (3) different Confederate Type Notes.
